Liturgy for Thanksgiving Day
Acknowledge that the Lord is God. He made us, and we are his—his people, the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise. Give thanks to him and bless his name. For the Lord is good, and his faithful love endures forever; his faithfulness, through all generations. Psalm 100:3-5
All eyes look to you, and you give them their food at the proper time. You open your hand and satisfy the desire of every living thing. Psalm 145:15-16
Our gracious God, as we are gathered together on Thanksgiving Day, we give You thanks for Your overflowing generosity to us. We pause to acknowledge You as the great Provider, the Giver of every good gift we have received.
We thank You for the blessing of family and friends, for the love that surrounds us.
We thank You for the blessing of the food You provide and especially for this feast today.
Above all, we thank You for the demonstration of Your immeasurable love in Your Son Jesus; His life as our example, His word as our truth, His death as our substitute, and His resurrection as our victory.
When we have plenty, help us to remember those who lack. When we are free of pain, help us to remember those who suffer. When we are safe, help us to remember those in danger. And when we feel loved, help us to reach out to those who are lonely.
For the goodness and mercy that is continually pursuing us, we thank You, Lord.
May we have hearts full of thanksgiving not only today but every day we are given.
Ultimate Giver of all blessings, accept our praise and thanks, we pray, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
