Morning Prayer

Matthew 6:9-13

Our Father, which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, As it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom, The power, and the glory, For ever and ever. Amen.

Our Father Who art in heaven

It is the great joy and meaning of my life to call you “Father.”  Help me live today from the fullness of this identity as a child of God.

1 John 3:1 - See what great love the Father has given us that we should be called God’s children.

Thank You for the demonstration of great love in Your beautiful creation, the people, the places, and the heavens that declare Your glory.

Psalm 19:1 - The heavens declare the glory of God, and the expanse proclaims the work of his hands.

For Your humble incarnation, coming down to breathe our air, walk our sod, rob our sin, and make us holy; becoming poor, so that through Your poverty, Your children might become rich.

2 Corinthians 8:9 - For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ: Though he was rich, for your sake he became poor, so that by his poverty you might become rich.

For Jesus’ perfect life of obedience in our place so that He could be a sinless sacrifice and an empathetic and merciful High Priest to Whom we can come boldly for grace and help in time of need.

Hebrews 4:15 - For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who has been tempted in every way as we are, yet without sin.

For Jesus’ sacrificial death for all men, lifted up as a curse so that we could look to Him for healing.

John 3:16 - (NKJV) - For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son

Romans 5:8 (NASB) - God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

2 Corinthians 5:21 - He made the one who did not know sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

Isaiah 53:5 - But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.

For Jesus’ victorious resurrection, conquering every enemy that separated us from You.

1 Peter 1:3 - Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Because of his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead

Hallelujah, praise the Lamb Who was slain for the sins of the world and is now alive forevermore.  Because He conquered, we can conquer.  Because He lives, we can also live.

For Jesus’ glorious ascension to the right hand of the Father with the promises to come again and to send His Spirit into our hearts.

Galatians 4:6-7 - And because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba, Father!”

And for Your constant care all along the way.

Deuteronomy 1:31 - The Lord your God cared for you all along the way as you traveled through the wilderness, just as a father cares for his child. Now he has brought you to this place.

Just as a father cares for his children, You have gently brought us to this day, my Father, my Savior, my Shepherd, my God, the King.

Hallowed be Thy name

Psalm 145:1-3 - I exalt you, my God the King, and bless your name forever and ever. I will bless you every day; I will praise your name forever and ever. The Lord is great and is highly praised; his greatness is unsearchable.

Romans 11:33-36 - Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and the knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments and untraceable his ways! For who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been his counselor? And who has ever given to God, that he should be repaid? For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be the glory forever. Amen.

You are great and sovereign and supreme. You are all-wise, all-powerful, all-present, and always. From eternity to eternity, You are God.

Psalm 145:8-10 - The Lord is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger, and great in faithful love. The Lord is good to everyone; his compassion rests on all he has made. All you have made will thank you, Lord!

Lamentations 3:22-23 - Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.

You are gracious and good, full of compassion, and faithful to Your character, Your creation, and Your covenant.

Thy kingdom come

In Your time and in Your way, come again, I pray.

Revelation 22:20 - Come, Lord Jesus!

Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven

Psalm 115:3 - Our God is in heaven and does whatever he pleases.

Do as You please in this world and in my life today.  Guide and guard your children, glorify Your name, and accomplish Your plans in all the earth.

Psalm 143:10 - Teach me to do your will, for you are my God. May your gracious Spirit lead me on level ground.

Give us this day our daily bread

Thank You for all Your provision today, most of all for Jesus, the bread of life and the living water, Who satisfies the hunger and thirst of our souls.  Thank you for physical and spiritual food.  By it may I be strengthened to follow You.

Psalm 145:15-16 - All eyes look to you, and you give them their food at the proper time. You open your hand and satisfy the desire of every living thing.

Psalm 119:18 - Open my eyes, that I may see wondrous things from Your law.

Psalm 119:27 - Help me understand the meaning of your precepts so that I can meditate on your wonders.

Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us

Thank You for Your forgiveness and cleansing.  Help me to show the mercy and compassion to others that You have shown to me.

Psalm 130:3-4 - Lord, if you kept an account of iniquities, Lord, who could stand? But with you there is forgiveness, so that you may be revered.

Proverbs 28:13 - The one who conceals his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them will find mercy.

1 John 1:8-9 - If we say, “We have no sin,” we are deceiving ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Psalm 139:23-24 - Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!

Most merciful God, I confess that I have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what I have done, and by what I have left undone.

I have not loved You with my whole heart. I have not loved my neighbor as myself. I am truly sorry, and I humbly repent.

For the sake of Your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on me and forgive me, so that I may delight in Your will and walk in Your ways to the glory of Your Name.

Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil

Keep me following You and forsaking sin today, living in gratitude to You and in grace and generosity to others.

Psalm 19:14 - May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to you,

Lord, my rock and my Redeemer.

Psalm 119:37 - Turn my eyes from looking at what is worthless; give me life in your ways.

Psalm 23:3 - He leads me along the right paths for his name’s sake.

Romans 12:1 - Therefore, brothers and sisters, in view of the mercies of God, I urge you to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God; this is your true worship.

Almighty God, you alone can bring into order the unruly wills and affections of sinners.

Grant your people grace to love what you command and desire what you promise; that, among the swift and varied changes of this world, our hearts may surely there be fixed where true joys are to be found, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.  Amen.
